I'm thrilling y'all with the most glorious red frock that the uber fabularsehole Sarah gave me!

I have been looking for the perfect plain red frock for ever, and have been far too lazy to make one, despite having a pile of red fabric tucked away under my sewing table!

And the darling went and presented me with this pearler when we arrived!

Now, I was rather inspired by Vix's post today about her opshop finds, and considering I haven't been opshopping since I was in Australia last week-like, forever-I figured I had best pop into a local oppie and see what I could find....

And I found a few goodies!

A tan knitting bag, that I will use as a bag...or maybe put my crochet shit in...

A skirt that will be cut up for a project, possibly

2 doilies, to be used for sewing projects...someday...

A pink and white spotty frock (70's) and an early 80's silver frock

And a pretty 60's floral mirror, which G loathes with a passion!

In fact, his words were:

Last night I went out for dinner with our friend Jo, whom I hadn't seen since last year!

We met up at Gorilla, a new restaurant in the suburb of Ferrymead, and proceeded to have a rather pleasant meal followed by the most delicous (shared!) dessert!

And so we're back to the usual programme.....

Darling wee Ada gave me this gorgeous kitty ring!

It was such a pleasure and a thrill to meet that little poppet, the most scrumptious and perfectly pocket poppable sweetie I have ever met!

I'm madly in love with you, doll face!

It would appear that the Summer sun has abandoned us in favour of rain, rain and more rain!

I blame Australia!

It started pissing down in a most unseemly fashion on our last night at Sarah's , causing flash floods and threatening to stop us from getting to Sydney to catch our flight home!

Now it's moved across the Tasman....

G and I have experienced the most insane phenomena over the last year and a half!

From earthquakes to floods ( we would have lost our Kombi had we waited for the signal to leave our campsite over Christmas 2010 ) to cyclones (2 whilst we were on that cruise last January!) to blizzards ( 2 last Winter! ), more earthquakes ( 4 bigguns in total, dozens of large aftershocks and thousands of smaller aftershocks! ) to more floods.....it's a little paranoia inducing!

Thank goodness there's no live vocanoes around here......or am I tempting fate?!

I opshopped this wee jacket a few weeks ago, as I am a total sucker for red, white and blue....

I'm not sure about the shape of it, but I do love the stripes!

Everything else I am wearing was also opshopped, except the skull necklace (G bought it for me in Wellington) and the red bow, which was from some little shop at the local mall. (Ugh, I know)

This frock make me think of sweet Ms Trees for some reason.

Little bugger has been fighting, and has some nasty puncture wounds on his little right leg.

Peter Frampton, I understand, was most successful with his live album than with any other album he put out!

I'm quite intrigued by that.

Does anyone even put live albums out anymore?

I can't think of the last one I came across, it may have been the All About Eve re-union tour album, "Fairy Light Nights" I and II.

Kiss "Alive" is one of the my fave live albums. O, and Rammstein's live one; that's not too long ago.

I don't have as much interest in going to a live band anymore, international ones particularly. In NZ they rarely come down to the South Island, and going to the North Island is rather costly. G went up with Cousin Phil to see Black Sabbath (with Dio) a few years back, but they are his fave ever band, so that was fair enough.

That said, we have had the good fortune to have some great bands down here.

We saw Portishead at the town hall (sadly coming down since the quakes; a rare example of good 70's architecture) some years ago, and Sonic Youth the same year. They played at a wonderful theatre which is also gone. At the same theatre-The Theatre Royal-I also attempted to see The Violent Femmes.

By "attempted" I mean I went, with my bff Gillian, but we imbibed a rather large quantity of homemade alcohol and I lasted only one song before coming to in the toilets and finding the theatre empty!

O, the shame.

I also went to the B52's at the town hall.

I took a friends daughter to Transvision Vamp there too.

We went to Iron Maiden a couple of years back; can't remember who else I've seen over the years.

The only band I have gone up to the North Island to see was The Mission, in late 1990. That was a great weekend!

Being from Sydney, on the other hand, I got to see quite a lot of live acts.

Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Shriekback, The Damned, Public Image Limited, Simple Minds are just some I can think of.

Simple Minds were freakin' brillant; they played 2 nights and I went to both....Jim Kerr (aka the biggest cock in rock, apparently) winked at me!

I'm sure that was mostly becasue I had my tits practically hanging out, but still....

The green lurex frock I scored yesterday at the Rangoon Musical Society sale!!

It was $10.

I also got a faux fur stole for a tenner, everything else I picked up was $8 or less/piece!

Perfect for a relaxed bbq and band practice!

Nix was channelling some meow!

I'm totally digging her new fringe, it emphasises her pretty eyes!

60's grape earrings and faux pearls were opshopped, and the pendant is from my beloved Vix , who must be home shortly from her Indian sabbatical!

I don't play an instrument; unless some furtive stabbing at the keyboard and bashing a tambourine count!

I love watching these kids at work.

Currently we are without a drummer, so were are doing a little song reworking and casting out feelers for a new one...

It's nice to just be chilled out about it for now, though.

Yeaaaaah, 2 posts in one day!!!

I figure you lucious critters deserve a double dose of Helga today!

I was up and at it early today!

On the road out to Rangoon by 8:10am!!

Jaysus, I hear you say, WTF was the hurry?!

The Rangiora Musical Society was having a wardrobe sale, that's what!

And what do we say to that?!

We say SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

The last one I went to, must have been 2010, was brillant and I came home with loads of goodies!

So when the irritatingly good looking Max told me there was one happening today, I was pretty much foaming at the mouth.

I swear, we would have licked her shoes to have a chance at a gander at her goodies.

Not her goodies, you dirty tramps, her goodies!

Anyway, I got her to take a pic of us, and she promptly cut off the top of my head....ha!

The Girl Who Wore Two Frocks on a Friday

Gawd, I was just soooo knackered last night.

I loaded these pix and couldn't find any words at all.....so I decided to save them for today!

You may have guessed by the title of the post that G and I went to see "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" yesterday.

Despite not having read the books, nor having seen the original film!

We thought it was farking awesome!

And frankly, Daniel Craig is a rather tasty morsel of manhood!

So I wore this frock that I opshopped yesterday on the way home from an appointment!

It's made of a lurex striped lightweight cottony fabric, perfect for Summery sunshine, I thought. And I love the teal blue colour, which just happens to go perfectly with the amazing headpiece I won from the gorgeous Hannah recently!

Yesterday we came home to find that not only had the plumber come to secure our hot water tank so it doesn't keep scooting around during earthquakes, but there had been the delivery of not one, but two parcels of exquisite delight!!!

OMG OMG OMG!!!

The top parcel was from the sexacious Desiree and included some fabulous earrings from The Stylist, as well as 2,(count 'em!) divine 60's hats amongst other swoony delights!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!

And....

The other parcel was from my new friend Sue !!!

And it appears that the splendidly amusing other Sue had a hand in it!

All manner of delicious goodies were lurking in that parcel, see?!

Honestly.

I was surprisingly speechless when I opened the parcels, and probably looked like some gormless fool, with my gob hanging open....

I felt decidedly faint and needed a drink....but I'd run out of vodka!!!

But all was not lost, for I had had the foresight to buy 2 bottles when I was last at the bottle store, and so had one "that I had prepared earlier".

Thank goodness for that!

Ha, yes, I am wearing the same frock I wore when I did my Helga hair video....it's a fave that darling Kitty sent me a while back!

It is unusual for me to wear the same frock twice in one week, but it does happen occasionally!

No, actually, it happens hardly ever.

WTF was wrong with me that I wore the same frock twice in one week is beyond me.

A little light transformation!

Darling Curtise sent me some splendid frocks a wee while back, and much as I love this one, it's too small, and not around my booboids for a change!

(Amazing!)

So.

I thought about it, and then I decided to take it apart and reconstruct it so I could be fabularsehole in it!

What did I do?

I took out the zip and then cut it in half!

Then I cut the bottom in half again,split the panels,stiched it all togther, gathered it,added a green satin ruffle and restitched it back on to the bodice!

Then put the zip back in, added some green satin around the neckline, took off the sleeves and tidied them up!

I'm quite pleased with it, and now I can wear it!

I'm going to wear it to see The Dresden Dolls tomorrow night!!!

Looking forward to it like a lizard digs sunshine!

The padding thingy I use is a pair of opshopped tights bundled up and glued onto a hair clip!

I used to be obsessed with bumpits, but this is way better, and I can wear my bike helmet painlessly over it!

I've had such a splendid weekend, back at work today for a rest!

This is what happens when a drunk friend takes pix of a drunk me in conversation....

Our camera that was poked seems to be working pretty well again, mostly, and we're sort of using 2 cameras...this pic was taken on one, and the other camera came out with us to dinner...

I felt a little underdressed....until we arrived, and the audience really was underdressed!

I truly thought such a show would inspire fabulous frocking up...but it seems I was the only one who thought so!

Definetly been struggling with my moods lately.

Being on the precipice of menopause doesn't help, I'm sure, but above and beyond that I just seem to have an consistently intense sense of impending doom that I just can't shake....

And it's not my 45th birthday tomorrow getting me down!

Funnily enough, the hardest bit for me, regarding age, is just where do I fit?

I was lucky enough to be invited to a blogger picnic yesterday!

The very lovely Georgia and Ayesha decreed that we should get plonked, nibble lovely treats and lie around in the grass at Little Hagley Park for the afternoon.

I got to meet Georgia's blog partner Christie, and Laurel, as well as Ayesha for the first time.

I knew she lived near me at one point, as I saw her about a bit, and she also took pix at Avebury House, just down the road from us, but when she didn't blog again after the February earthquake last year, I was a bit worried...but she was fine, is fine and is hopefully going to start blogging again!

Laurel is actually from Wellington, but is about to re-locate to Melbourne.

She too hasn't blogged in a while, and hopefully she might take it up again as well!

Not sure about the others, but I got well plastered, loud and probably very slurry.....wouldn't want to disappoint!

Then I had to pop on down to Pomeroys, as our darling Amber is back from her trip to Europe!

I got a new frock yesterday.

Sometimes, no matter how many frocks a gal has, there is a burning desire, nay, need, to have something new and fabulous for the wardrobe!

So we popped by Retropolitan on the way home from work yesterday.

Not only did I find a little treatie for Sarah (28 sleeps!), I also found this splendid grapey coloured 60's frock!

And wouldn't you know it, I had tights in my drawer that matched!

Our friends from Brizzo, Mike and Claire came over yesterday afternoon to spend some time.....

We drank rather a lot of bubbly, tequila, vodka and gin, and watched their daughter play dress ups with my frocks.....

We had a splendid, simple dinner consisting of the biggest salmon steaks I've ever seen in my life and my orzo/feta/hazelnut salad.....

We drank more and chatted into the night....

It was lovely!

Mike and Claire have a fabulous business, Mixdmediumz, where Mikes amazing jewellery is showcased...a very talented pair, Claire also make the most delicious headpieces, and I was lucky enough to have her present me with 4(4!) as an early birthday pressie!

I was trying to do my best Kenny Everett impersonation here, but I think Mike was too drunk to capture my brillance, so what we have here is a slightly amusing drunken nothingness!

Ooo, I was just given one of those little Ferraro Rocher choccies, the ones with Nutella in the middle.....mmmm

I don't have a big sweet tooth, but sometimes I get the taste for it, go hard and then can't stand the thought of sweets for ages.

I'm really more of a savoury girl.

I like nuts.

Hazelnuts, walnuts, pinenuts, peanuts, cashews....you name the nut, I probably like it.

Just thought you might like to know!

Macadamias, brazil nuts.....yeah!

I'm thinking of hazlenuts probably because I'm planning to make my hazelnut/orzo/feta salad on Friday, when our Brisbane friends rock round for a bout of frivolity.

I am putting together a grocery shopping list; one of my favourite things to do!

I like to write my ideal list, get excited, and then realise I need to write my necessary list.

I'm a shocker when it comes to food shopping, I love to hoard, and to have oodles of delicious things just idling in the cupboard and fridge waiting for their moment in the spotlight and my belly...

I'm quite happy doing groceries, and especially love going to my favourite specialty shops, like the Meditteranean Warehouse, or an Asian supermarket, as well as the local butchers and green grocers.

Our local fishmonger came down in the February quake, so we are currently going to one not too far from our work.

I always buy above and beyond what is on my list; food is my only real extravagence......

A girl has to have some luxury in her life!

I generally roll my eyes and proclaim "it's easy, I just put my foot on the pedal and go!"

I cycle in heels all the time!

I've never questioned it, I don't consider it anything out of the ordinary, I guess it's just part of my total package of fabulousness!

The night before New Year we went out for drinkies and Thai with our lovely friend Ralph!

He came down for a few days with his friend (dammit) Nonlanlah, and has gone back today.

I don't expect he got a good nights sleep, as we had a frigging swarm of quakes from about midnight on, in the 4's and 5's, even losing power for an hour or so around 6am. Bloody kept waking us and the kittehs up.

Honestly.

It's just not bloody funny anymore!

Anyway, I'm not sure how it happened, but I managed to create a hair do that to me was reminiscent of Queen Victoria!

I really like it, and I felt ever so noble.

Our usual favourite has not re opened since the February quake, dammit.

It's a bloody tragedy for some business owners, but an amazing amount have got themselves back up and running again in different suburbs around town!

The bugger is that we used to be a short distance from the centre of town, and all the lovely retaurants and bars there.....now, the survivors have moved to suburbs outside the city centre, mostly on the other side of the city centre from where we are!

Some suburbs, such as Addington, have a whole new lease of life, which is rather exciting, as they were quite run down and neglected.

Um, I have to confess that I did not actually see the New Year in!

Not due to lack of fabulousness or anything, but I simply couldn't be arsed!

We had the most splendid late afternoon evening, hanging out with wonderful peoples, eating yumcious nibbleys and then a bbq, sharing bubbles, then jamming into the night.....but I was tired and didn't feel like getting plastered.....so I went to beddy bye-bye land!

Today I have been an awfully good girl; not a drop of alcohol has passed my lips!

After a drunken night last night with Justine, G and Nix, I was feeling a little toxic, and have gone so far as to have a spirulina smoothie and lots of water to soothe my guilty concscience and liver, and also lots of raspberry leaf tea for my dreadful pmt bloat!

Hammer Time

Yep, tis the season to get out ones hammer after a few bubblys and smack a hole in the wall!

Grrrr!

Makes me feel so butch!

I'd been over the road at our neighbour Whina's watching some flax weaving and chatting about Japanese swords with Whina's hubby for a couple of hours.

I think the sword talk got me frisky.

G graciously handed me the hammer on my return, as he's ripped off the other side of the wall now.....and I got to make the break through bash!

G has been beavering away in the most manly fashion, working on getting that wall down.....it's proved to be a bigger mission than we initially expected.

Why o why is that always the way?!

Under the jib board in my room G found the original exterior of the house!

And there had been a fire at some point in its history, hence the dark patch!

On the left is what we think may have been the original back door, only the surround doesn't seem as old as the rest, so either it got reframed, or was actually added later.

Our house was built in 1924, I think.

G found some newspaper in the cavity which dates the last bit of work done to 1985.

I wish he'd found some 1922 newspaper!

I wore a 70's caftan-esque opshopped frock with lashings of heavy jewellery and some wedges I got off Trade Me.

A girl needs to be comfy when weilding a hammer.

And then we popped off down the road to stock up on vodka and listen to our liquor store lady have a bit of a political rant.

We then spent the evening watching Kill Bill Vol I and II; haven't watched it in a while, I freaking LOVE it!

The frock is one of the 3 delicious frocks my darling Curtise sent me, and she must have known that we were having our foyer painted to match this one!!!

We are starting to move a few things back into the house....hurrah!

Can't wait to have the house back to normal...well, new normal!

I also hope to get my machines set up a bit so I can do a few alterations and start thinking about what frock I want to make first!

O, gawd, and then I'll be having to wonder which case holds the particular fabric I want to use!

When the earth starts a rockin', don't come a knockin'

You've probably heard by now that we've had a series of earthquakes again today, the biggest being a 6.0.

Meh.

No fatalities; power was out for a few hours, malls and the airport were evacuated, there is messy liquifaction again....none of us expected another round of this, it seemed to have finally settled down!

We're fine!

The cats disappeared for a few hours, and we just sat out in the sun and had a few drinkies.

'Twas a bit freaky scary, but what can you do?

Well, we got out all my shoes.

I'd promised the gorgeous Malayka a shoe post, and as we had nothing better to do....we did it!

I don't know, I still don't feel that I have enough shoes, and certainly never the right pair for the right occasion!

Anyway,

I've used G's phone to take todays pic, as my camera is definetly not a happy camper.....but G spotted an inexpensive one on Trade Me, that is actually brand new, never opened, and we snaffled it!

I don't know shit about photography and flash cameras, so anything super good would be wasted on me.

(That may have something to do with the demise of my trusty little camera)

I managed to recover sufficently from my Friday night out to go to our gorgeous Liz' hens party on Saturday afternoon.

With a little hair of the dog, that is!

My damn camera was causing me a little grief on Friday.....and on Saturday, even more so.

I don't know what is wrong with it, but G took quite a few shots before I went out, and I took loads at Liz', but very few are actually useable!

Our mate Maria popped around; she and I got off our tits in the backyard for a few hours!

Then one of G's brothers and his wife popped in!

Back at work today for a rest!

A big plus is that we got a new mattress delivered on Friday afternoon, so we set up our bed in the band room, and have 2 nights of splendid, snuggly, restful sleep!

Aka, what a frigging fantasmo night we had!

I went for a kind of Esther Williams meets Carry On Nurse look.

My beloved Vix sent me this marvellous 60's swimsuit, that I decided was perfect for the evening, considering the wet weather!

I had to take out the pointy bits, as they weren't so pointy anymore, and rather than look like I was packing some real heat, it looked a bit like I was packing bruised mangoes.

Worn with my vintage nurses cape, splendiferous floral headband and clip on earrings from sexacious Desiree, some red fishnets, 50's gloves from a junk shop in Greta Valley, shoes from a garage sale, opshopped white beads and a diamante necklace from darling Louise, I felt rather fabulous!

Justine looks like an elongated version of Sandy in the finale of Grease meets Rosie the Riveter!!!

We met up with Amy at the venue and proceeded to have a fricking drunken humdinger of a night!

We've just caught up again this last year after about 20 years-we'd had a bit of a fling before G and I got it on, and he wandered off into the abyss for a while.

He's now a respectable (ha!never!!) married man and father of 2!

And you know all about me.

It's quite nice to hang out again.

He was pondering whether he should continue to rock out leaning back like some archdeacon of bass-tiality, or if he should perhaps be hunching over like a demented pony rider whilst playing.

I persuaded him to continue with the former.

He commented that my blog seems to be a lot about clothes.

Yeah.

It is.

I would probably describe Beastwars as relentless.

I boogied my arse off in the back corner, so am a bit sore today, as well as a fine hangover.

Well, we didn't see a golden orb at all today!

It's been pissing down like a bastard!

There's been heavy rain and severe flooding in the upper North of the South Island, and I think that that weather has moved on down here.

I'm going out with Justine and an old mate of ours, Amy, to see Beastwars at the new Dux Live venue tonight, and it's gotten all cold, which doesn't bode well for the outfit I was planning to wear!

Say hello to our bed of the last few weeks!

Yes indeedy, we've been sleeping in our backyard, and it has been ever so comfy and snuggly!

But tonight we sleep in the house!

We've moved the mattress into the band room.

We had been told that we would get the final inspection today, and we foolishly thought that meant that all the building work was to be finished!

We thought wrong!

And in fact, had been misled!

We found out last night that it's all to be finished next week....but we got the pookies home anyway!

I just couldn't bear to be without them any longer!

So, there is still the painting in what will be my sewing/dressing room to be done (it will be pink and silver), and a few other bits and pieces.

We have new carpet coming into half the house on Tuesday, and we have a builder set up to take out the wall in between the dining room and my old sewing/dressing room when we are in Australia in February, and then we'll get the rest of the new carpet in!!

Not to mention a new mattress for our bed next Friday!

I really do not understand why anyone would pay to have ginormous booboids!

With all my clothes being out in the garage, I am trying to be organised each night, and select my clothes for the next day so I don't have to rummage around in the dim morning light for something to wear.

I forgot just how booboid enhancing this frock is, and said to G, "shit, this really isn't appropriate for the workplace"

But he reminded me that we've had bimbos at work in the past, exposing their booboids right down to the nipples, and that it really wasn't too bad....

I bloody forgot to pop in a necklace and a hair ornament, but was thrilled to give those amaaaaazing shoes and collar thingy that my beloved Vix sent a wee spin!

What followed was a little more wine, and a lovely meal consisting of vegan lasagne, dahl (from me),some kind of frittata and I can't remember what else!

A splendid way to finish off a fabulous day!

Since I've been awol the last couple of days, I thought I ought to treat you to an around town Friday Froctacular post!

Our post work Friday started out in serious fashion.

We need a new mattress.

Our existing one is well past it's use by date.

This one is juuuuust right!

We both like a firm work bench, and had no trouble selecting a splendid mattress for a reasonable price.

G was talking away to the shop dude here, and said "why are you taking my picture?!"

"Because I'm a blogger.

That's what bloggers do."

This isn't the one we chose, but it was quite comfy and I was tempted to have a pre lunch snooze.

Then we toddled off into the central city for the first time since the February quake.

It was rather sobering (and I hadn't had a drink yet), as there isn't much of it left.

The central building was hotel, and was in a considerable slump.

It'll be good when it's gone, as then they can open up the bit of town around it.

This is Cashel Mall, now a container mall!

We liked it!

It's funky, and they've done it very neatly and colourfully!

We were hoping to find a bar, but no joy.

(Fukstiks!)

I am usually far too lazy to go to the annual world buskers festival, but these lovely ladies are tempting me!

They look right up my alley!

I really like this old building, and wonder if they are holding it up until it gets demoed, or until they can repair it.

Knowing the frenzied "pull it down" fever we've had, it'll come down allright!

I find that new frocks burn a hole in my wardrobe, so I simply have to wear them as soon as possible, unless they need work.

The other two frocks I got do need to be taken in around the waist, so you'll just have to wait until my sewing machine can come out of the garage to see them!
