Ionic, Doric or Corinthian?!

Corinthian, according to G.
A fella who knows his columns!

We had a very brief expedition to Oamaru on Saturday; we spent the afternoon nosing around a couple of opshops and most importantly, Retro Funk!
Retro Funk is the most splendid retro shop, right in the heart of the Victorian Precinct!
They were actually closed, but very kindly opened up for us...
I loved that plastic floral thingy to the right!

I was deadset on this retro-tastic Sydney Harbour tray for the cocktail cabinet, but alas, G was not convinced.

O, please, please bring us some retro luck!

G found this perfect fitting 3 piece brown pinstripe suit!
He was a very happy boy!
He needed a nice treat; he's been working so hard on the house, and still isn't finished!

Um, no.
This didn't do Nix justice, but I forgot to get a pic of the one that did!

My eyes are glowing with retro fever!
See the round fishy thing hanging behind me?
There were loads of those, and we didn't have a clue what they were about....apparently they were a 70's thing, for holding your paper plate at a BBQ!

Sinbad the frigging dolphin?!

What I found at Retro Funk was the yellow case, the 60's frock, the pale pink 60's hat and matching gloves!
At the Salvation Army I found the brown vinyl overnight bag for 50c (!), the crimplene spotty jacket in a foul but fabulous colour, two scarves, 2 ties for fancy dressing, and the red 70's vinyl gloves!
I'm pretty pleased with my loot.
Later, we all wore our new goodies when we went out to dinner at the Loan and Merc and onto The Penguin Club to catch a few bands!

The hat and gloves are sooooo pale pink, and sooo pretty!
Yowza, another hat for my collection!
Gawd help me, I'm supposed to be saving myself for the grand Two Squirrels sale this coming weekend!

I friggin love Oamaru - so jealous!! I love all those vintage goodies you got too!! I also want to visit the Penguin Club, when Rich and I visited Oamaru it was a week night so nothing was happening there - we really must go back during a weekend.

OMG you know you are SOMEBODY FABULOUS when they open the vintage shop just for you, darling! You look BEAUTIFUL - there's the rest of the divine pink outfit - and I love all of your goodies... especially the yellow case (LOVE IT!) and G-Star's three piece suit (boom chicka wa wow!) and I love the new leopard background. I totally remember those paper plate holders - they also came in a bird shape. CLASSY!

Love you more than a 1970s bbq! Sarahxxx

How fantastic was it that the shop opened just for you!!! Star quality like the Queen huh??!! Loving the pink hat and gloves.

They would know by your fantastic ensemble that it would be worth their while to open and it was! Splendid bargains as ever, wish we could get them here in Blighty. (I know Vix manages it but I don't see such treasures 'darn sarf')

I love the jacket.

I want some of those fish things now. I didn't even know they existed and now they seem a must-have!

I really liked the Sydney harbour tray, you should have got it lol. Looks like you got a tremendous amount of swag, I love days like that! You look so glam in that fur. X

You're a proper star that they open a shop 'specially for you!
I like the tray too and Big Jesus would have had to come with me for my wall of 'Jesus and his mum.'

Lakota [Faith Hope and Charity Shopping] said...

Aw, I think G could be worked on regarding the tray - I think it's fab. But paper plate holderers? They have to be the best and most pointless thing ever! Want!

Adding you to my pinterest favourite bloggers, yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

What a fab shop, and a great haul. I have some flat basket thingies that you put your paper plates on at barbies, but they're nowhere near as fun as those fish!
Love the outfit.

That shop is the perfect backgdrop for you both. I just wish I could have a private viewing (of the shop, you understand).
Pink looks stunning.on you, and that coat is very covetable.
Very taken with the pattern on the green 60's frock. Geometry eluded me at school, but I sure love it when translated as fabric!

Oh, the gloves and hat! And G.'s new suit is an amazing fit, especially with the red cross tee. I'm impressed that the shop owner opened for you.

Melanie said...

G's suit? Yes. Your new gloves and hat? Yes. I know what you mean when you say foul but fabulous. I love an edge of disgust. TOO much harmony is not real. Looks like a fun day topped by a fun evening out.

LOVE Retro Funk! Such an institution..
Very funky things going on in there!
I have had sets of those fishies at various times over the years (they used to be everywhere at garage sales1) but always forgot to use them at bbqs! Much better idea to hang them up...
