Pushing through my usual skin

I haven't been deliberately wearing the old red, white and blue during the Olympics, I just can't seem to help myself!
So, dammit, I'm going to link this outfit to the Ethical Fashion Bloggers Olympic outfit challenge, as red, white and blue are the colours of not only the NZ flag, but almost every other flag in existence!

You may have recognised (I'm assuming you remember everything I have ever worn, devoted fans that you are!) the stripey jacket from a post in January (above), the one and only time I have worn it......it just didn't feel right, and has been languishing in a pile of crap on my sewing/dressing room floor....until the other day, when I was inspired by Elsa Billgren to crop the bloody thing!
It was an epiphany!
I like it so much more now, and it will likely make a more regular appearance!
I love simple transformations!

On another matter, a new reader, Cityscape Skybaby (awesome name!) asked me for some suggestions for what to wear when camping!
I actually love camping, believe it or not, and I pretty much rely on easy fitting 70's frocks and barefeet, as my heels damn well sink into the ground!
(How vexing!)
That's pretty much it, really, apart from sunglasses and a nice, big hat.
And lots of reading material, booze and nice nibbles, not that you can wear any of these.
Well, I do get food all over me quite often, so I guess that counts?!
I don't think I'm any kind of authority, however, and would recommend checking out what Vix wears to music festivals, as they involve camping, and are often wet!
Thank you for asking, though!

There's nothing like a hat with netting to make my heart pitter patter. I love how you've hacked off the bottom part of that striped jacket. It's purrfect now! A most lovely red, white, and blue ensemble. Fantastic handbag from the school fair too!

Holy enchiladas batgirl - this red, white and blue outfit is FROCKTACULAR! I love the transformed jacket - it is so much more YOU now - and the jacket is sublime - and I just ADORE your shoes and handbag, amor. You know I love camping as much I as love cat puke, but you and Vix sure do make it look glamorous with your maxis and flowy hippy gorgeous glamness. SKYPE TONIGHT YES! Love you more than handbags, Sarah xxx

Thank you for your reply Helga, hope I can pull off looking as stylish as you and Vix, glad to hear I'm not the only one who ends up wearing her food, though mine usually ends up in my hair somehow. Love your outfit here, you make me feel like getting all glammed up too, which is some feat these days.

ps; have to give credit for my name to the Super Furry Animals because I nicked it off them. xx

There is nothing quite so satisfying as a good old cropping!!! You do the patriotic colours so well. Go New Zealand, Go!!! ♥

Isn't it amazing the difference a small alteration can make to a piece of clothing. I love this wee cropped jacket - when I saw the first pic I thought you were wearing a dress that had a bodice in a different color to the rest of the frock!!

On a sadder note, I'm not sure if I will make it down this year now:( I'm trying save to go to the states next May and all my money seems to keep disappearing! So I think it may have to be next year - unless I can get a sweet grab a seat deal! Which I guess is possible. I will come and see you sometime soon though and I will happily eat as much Mexican food as you can cook om nom nom:D

You could be supporting team GB in that red, white and blue gloriousness, but then as you say, that colour combo is a popular one for flags, it seems!
I thought the newly transformed jacket was part of the frock at first, doesn't it look fab? You are clever, and you suit those 60s hats like no other! You do look as though you might just take off the hat, and your glasses, shake out your hair, and there will be a "why Miss von Trollop, you're a Sex Kitten" moment!

Camping? Not for me, but you and Vix add a certain glamour to the proceedings. Booze surely helps! xxxxxxx

That jacket is fantastic! Opening your wardrobe every morning most feel like Christmas! Do you have a 'one in one out' policy when you're buying clothes or are you just lucky to have half the house dedicated to your wonderful closet? I know I've probably asked this before but pretty please will you do a post one day where you give us a sneak peek? I'm oh so curious (and nosey).
Interesting question about camping and vintage by your reader. I think nothing beats beautiful 70s cotton threads in that situation :)

The red, white and blue is exquisite on you, and of course your hat is always perfection. I also love the red bow as headwear!

You look fabulous. That jacket looks so much better cropped. I do love red, white and blue together even though I'm not particularly patriotic.

You're looking lovely in all this patriotic blue and I agree that cropping the jacket was ingenius!

Annie said...

No nasty nylon wigs or boring t-shirts for you Helga. You do patriotic dressing with class!
The jacket does look fabulous cropped, and I love the coat.

Alas, camping in the UK requires wellies and a warm jacket even in the (so-called) Summer!
