All the star blues brothers are gonna be out here in a minute

It's a long weekend down here; Labour Weekend, in fact.
It's been sun, sun, sunny!
And a whole lot of nuthin' has been going down.

We did, however, brave the city's biggest mall to do some shopping with a pile of gift vouchers I got from work.
They could only be spent at this particular mall, dammit.
So we gritted our teeth, gussied ourselves up and made our way through the masses to a shop that sells kitchenwares.
For that is what I wanted.
Stuff for the kitchen.
I happily purchased 2 plain white* dinner sets, a baking dish and a thingy to hold my cookbooks.
That done, we scarpered out as fast as we possibly could!

I wore:
Frock-50's, Trade Me
Cardi-60's, opshopped
Belt-thrift store somewhere in New Mexico, I think
Shoes-Trade Me
Handbag-60's, a vintage shop in Portland
Bow-made by moi
Sunglasses-50's, from lovely Sue
Chain necklace-from beautiful Vix
Swordfish eye necklace-a long defunct arty shop
Other necklace-a Shabby Chic market
Earrings-San Cristobel de las Casas, Mexico

G wore:
Hat-Primm, Nevada
Top-60's, we can't remember where we found it
Pants-70's, Retropolitan

That's a glass of bubbly and orange juice in his hand!
We needed to crack open a bottle of bubbly to celebrate surviving the hideous homogenousness of the mall!

*Vix will be thrilled, she can't bear to eat off anything but plain white plates!

I'm relieved you survived the mall adventure. At least you were properly armoured in that fabulous outfit and that divine purse which I'm sure if called upon would be excellent for smacking rude shoppers out of the way. I'm also glad you wore the magnificent seeing-eye pendant for extra power. Cheers! You've worked for it.

How very strange....Paul & I were just talking about you this weekend, & we wondered whether you go to the R-Mall very often. Obviously only when it is absolutely essential! You shoes look ab-fab & you know we all love the red white & blue combo. Love G's spiffy outfit too. Xx

Sunshine??? We have had RAIN all day up here and it is freezing!!! Me and TOF did a Mall Crawl on Saturday but we went well before it filled up with the "crazy" shoppers. Love your outfit.

Fabularse outfit today and I love the handbag and dress. What an insane eyeball necklace, it's giving me the 'evils'.
Enjoy your sun, we've got rain, rain rain.

Ooooh another EXQUISITE redwhiteblue outfit darling - I ADORE the frock and the bag has me weeping for joy. You are so beautiful.

Oh gourd - I have to go into a mall about once a year and I always get quite twitchy and weirder than usual in there - I hate them!

G-Star looks GORGEOUS, as always - LOVE his mystery shirt and hat. Spunk.

Love you more than the BEACH! Sarah xxx

This outfit is so brilliant! Bless Vix, it's a shame though I love funky patterned china! x

the only mall I enjoy going to is an outdoor one in Jacksonville, Fla. It's one of those "fake" downtown one's that has streets. I don't like being cooped up in those indoor ones.

I'm the Queen of Fiesta Wear, I like eating off colorful plates. To each our own.

Kitty Cat has the right idea!

Glad to see you made it out alive from the mall (I personally call the mall one of Dante's outer rings of Hell--avoid it like the plague)
I'm sure you and G however were the most FABULOUS pair there in all of your retro/vintage glory!!!
I'm in the white plate club, too. Although I've been amassing a collection of clear cutglass dinnerware and glasses in a pattern called Wexford. It was sold in Woolworth's dime store and given away as prizes in movies and groceries in the 30's-50's. I inherited my great-grandmom's 6 goblets and plates and it's been a minor obseesion since!

Helga, you and G are herocially courageous mall-survivors! Glad to know you've got very effective means of soul-restoration. Your swordfish eye necklace is incredible, and must have all kinds of powers, including warding-off. Enjoy the remainder of your long weekend!

I am wishing had a mimosa to drink with G. You look ravishly Helgatronic in your red/white/blue gloriousness. I just saw Sarah's post in her windswept loving tribute to you. XO.

wouu, red fishnet tights and elegant blue shoes are a fabulous combo!, and love your dress, such a pretty print, and all that necklaces are gorgeous and love them too!!
And I'm admiring G's great attitude, lady, he's über-elegant and that orange drink matches his sneakers!

oooh, what a beautiful colour combo. and those red fishnets, ooh la la! Meow!

Loving the bag especially, it is absolutely gorgeous!

Lovely as always. Blue looks really good on you. I like malls but sometimes there are too many snotty, bratty teens there.

Guess who's coming to dinner? ME!!!!
Phwoar, you're giving me the horn!!!
The mall, yuk! Vile, horrible place where the dimwits who frequent it walk round like they're on crack. You deserve a bottle of Champers for tolerating such mediocrity!
The new wedges rock ad how stunning is that red, white & blue kelly bag?
I want that eye pendant, will you leave it me in your will?
Give PeePee a belly rub from me!
Love ya! Vix

Love these summery, chilled shots! You both look fab.

Ah, the mall. I only appreciate it in any form during the depths of winter, when the naff music etc' is slightly more bearable that the cold outdoors.

You look beautiful! Lovely colours! Kisses x x x x

Oh you brave darlings, suffering the mall and the hideously homogenous for the sake of new kitchen ware! No wonder bubbly sustenance was required!
You are quite the vision of R/W/B chic (I must be channelling you, snap!) and G looks as fabulous as ever.
I will eat off any colour plate, plain, patterned, whatever, especially if someone else has made my tea! What's on the menu, darling?! xxxx

Fantastic pictures! If I'd seen the two of you in a mall (ew) I'd have grabbed you and said, "Let's get the hell outta here!" Reminds me of an old children's show, Sesame Street I believe, where the song went something like, "one of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't quite fit." Then you were suppose to find the thing that didn't belong. haha! I bet you secretly inspired a lot of people there though. They looked at the two of you and thought to themselves, "Oh yeah, I forgot I was a creative person inside, no wonder I can't find anything to wear here at the mall." And then they hopped in their car and drove to the nearest Vintage/Thrift shop. Yay!

Hi Helga, just catching up on your wonderful blog while my lovely family go the Warehouse of horrors. I am with Vix with white china. Helga, you have the best tights - where do you buy them? I love love love the purple dress with the orange tights - just fabulous.

Gah--you've just burst my bubble. I had imagined that NZ was the one place on earth that malls didn't exist.

Check out Peepee showing off. *pat, pat, pat*

Urh we had to run to the mall this weekend too, it's awful isn't it! I had no idea Vix had a thing about white dinner plates, too funny :) I love your sweet dress and G's mimosa is a perfect way to make any day better! The kitty in the sunshine make me wanna roll too!

Ria and I had to face the horrors of the Westfield Mall in the Hutt this weekend - I understand you're pain! We did very little this weekend and it was awesome. Looking fabulous as always Helga!

I like a Mall now and then, but usually I realise I can't afford anything there and tend to go round thinking "I could get that cheaper on ebay". Well done for braving it. I'm surprised you only got plain white, that was very restrained of you.
Looking gorgeous, lovely pattern on your dress and those glasses are the most amazing ever. Think I'll have to paint you

Kitty said...

Urgh, a mall, aren't they just the worst?! But it sounds like both sailed through it, I'd be surprised if you both didn't simply stun the masses rigid with your style, LOL!!! Go Helga!!

I was at the MALL on Saturday because I had 30% off for a particular store. It was hideous and overflowing with teenagers and pretentious people. Then getting out of the parking lot? It was like CHRISTMAS! Argh! I'm glad you survived, look un-homogenously fabulous and celebrated with a very sophisticated libation.

The Pugnacious Vegetarian said...

You both look so lovely! Anytime one survives a trip to the mall, bubbly should be cracked!

Those irises are beautiful, but not as beautiful as you :)

Cute happy kitty! <3
I hate big shoppingcentres and malls. When there are to many people I will panic.
Your shoes are gorgeous. Love the color. Great handbag!

p.s. G. looks so cool and handsome!

Yes, Malls exhaust me and I find myself suddenly wanting to buy things I have no earthly reason to. I agree with JOni, if I had seen you two in a mall, I would rush up to you and after taking a photo, would drag you both out of there so we could have a coffee and gossip! G looks very suave, but you, my darling, continue to ROCK the red, white and blue with such Helgaiciousness!!

vintage_kitten said...

You look lovely.Just love that dress.xx

Yay, another red, white & blue combo! You look dynamite, and that frock is lovely. I try and avoid the mall these days too - it's just so noisy, and crowded!
