In joyful strains then let us sing

You wanted it, you got it!
A symphony of green and yellow with a little black thrown in for good measure!
(Well, personal sanity, really!)
I got splendid compliments all day, thank goodness, 'cos I really was more than a little uncomfortable to be wearing the Aussie green and gold!
But I have Helgafied and conquered!

Frock-North Canterbury Musical Society costume sale a couple of years back
(It's ridCOCKulously badly made!)
Cardi-opshopped
Belt-opshopped
Jacket-late 70's, opshopped
Tights-retail
Shoes-Trade Me (I think I paid about 3:50! I love second hand shoes; they're worn in and bargainacious!)
Handbag-60's, The Funky Monkey, New Orleans!
(When I found it, I squee'd, grabbed it off the wall and ran to G, PANTING. I love this handbag.)

Earrings-a gift from darling Leisa
Necklace-50's, from lovely Max
Hairbow-opshopped and attached to a hairclip
Sunglasses-San Francisco

I am enjoying a gin and tonic (Bombay, darlings, of course!) and watching Come Dine with Me, which is a teensy obsession of mine.....
G will be home soon from an afternoon with 2 of his brothers in gawd knows what state, so I have some noodles, vegetables and Thai flavours on hand to cook up a feast.
We have a long weekend here in New Zealand, and I am rather excited that we have very little planned.......my ideal weekend!
We have a fridge and cocktail cabinet filled with all manner of delights and 3 days to enjoy them!
Hurrah!

I love the green and gold and I didn't even make the link back to them being Aussie colours till you mentioned it.

I am SO HAPPY about this long weekend - we have very little planned - I'm going to sew and watch some movies and in general do very little!

Yay for long weekends! Hoorah!

You look SPECTACULARSE my dear! You KNOW I am obsessed with green. And you've made it looks super stylish, not Aussie bogan at all! Thanks for your sweet comment. I will be getting checked out this weekend. Darn dicky ticker of mine! I wish we were celebrating a long weekend with you & G. Enjoy whatever you get up to. Xx

You have turned a usually drab combination green and gold into a splendiferous concoction of wonderfulness. Go Helga!!

that dress is making me feel warm and fuzzy, you look fabulous - green and gold is clearly wonderful together - come dine with me is just the best - i am currently flu ridden but joyously watching it all afternoon x

You are the queen of the colors and you tamed even one of the wildest combination and I love the result!!
Your Symphony frock is beautiful, great pleated skirt and the notes embroidery is just lovely, perfect with the delicate touch of the gold belt, I find everything very soft and elegant despite when someone think about green and yellow usually can't imagine such a polished outfit!
Have a Bombey-astic weekend!!
Love

I never made the link to green and yellow being Aussie colours, how stupid am I? I love this combination on you, that gorgeous Musical Society frock that I've loved for 2 years with that cure yellow blazer, funky shoes and cool tights and that bag, I know from Skype, is an absolute dream!!! Those earrings are gorgeous.
G&T and come Dine With Me? Bliss! Hope G doesn't roll in too drunk!
Have a fantastic LONG weekend!
Love you!

What a gorgeus photo and outfit ! The colours are amazing !

Sheer brilliance. Like Leisa I'm mad for green and as for yellow how can one not smile at yellow. Furthermore how can one not smile when you're rocking this awesome green and yellow musical combo.

I am another dimwit who hadn't made the link to the Aussie flag... duh!
Still, as they like to say on the naff TV singing competitions, you've made it your own!
I LOVE the yellow tights, with the matchy-match jacket and hair bow. And no matter that the dress is a disaster on the seamstress front, it's a beauty in the eye of this beholder.
Can you leave me that bag in your will please? Just asking....
Hope the G-Force and his brothers hold it together... Still, if you are at the Bombay Sapphire already, you'll be nice and mellow and not care if they are in a pickle when they arrive home!
Have a fabularse weekend, darling! xxxxx

I always always have a smile on my face while I read your blog. I'm totally loving the colors of your outfit today. And Yes to the Bombay.

I'm the same!! And not only do I have a problem with wearing the Aussie colours, I also can't wear football team colours (that eliminates a lot of combos) or I walk around "feeling a little bit bogan" all day.

Aussie colors? I didn't know that, but all the red, white and blue sends me straight to the 4th Of July picnic (USA independence day)Green and red= Christmas. Blue and yellow=IKEA.........Just wear prints?

Love the earrings. Purple. green and gold? Mardi Gras!

Those "nothing" weekends always turn out to be the best. A little bit o' lazy, a little bit o' spontaneity. Sounds like you've got all the makings for a great feast too, several feasts that is.
You're a breath of freshness in these colors. We're heading in to a most likely nasty winter and it's grey and rainy here, yuck!

MistressCatgirl said...

You look great! I like the music note detail on the bodice but its too bad that it's made badly. I'm super picky about second hand clothes I buy. You can always hand sewn the parts that need it the most.

oh my, I adore that yellow green and black! with the beautiful cherry blossom behind it. I'm never satisfied, add some pink in next time too! xxxx

Oh aussie colors--did not know that.
However--you totally ROCK that color combo!!! It's been Helgafied into fabulosity!!!
Love everything about it and I would've snatched that purse with a squee myself!!

Yay! I'm finally able to make my rounds and rejoice in your fabulousness. Your dress is a melody! Bwa-ha-ha. Your legs are like beams of lime-tinged sunshine with brown strappy shoes on them. Good luck in your sewing project. Yes, I agree that G is one in a million. And he mixes a mean Bloody Mary? Sigh.

CityScape Skybaby said...

You look great Helga, I like the little bit of black with it all too. And those shoes are beautiful, for 3.50! I must visit Trade Me. I love 'Come Dine With Me' too, I didn't watch it for ages because I thought it would just be snooty people but it's the different characters that pop up every time that make it so great. You should be on it Helga, in fact a bunch of you bloggers doing a Come Dine With Me special would be amazing. G could make a guest appearance too. xx

Ooh la la la - this is the PERFECT green and yellow combo - not in the least bit Aussie Aussie - and not a southern cross to be seen anywhere!

I LOVE this shade of green - and the various yellows are exquisite - and the divine necklace and handmade.

Happy long weekend darlo=ing - I did sunset on the beach in your honour this evening and even stared toward NZ in the hopes that you might FEEL my love across the sea!

Love you more than crochet! Sarah xxx

Gorgeous colours and I love the blossom tree behind you...just took some photos this morning one myself. Just love those seasonal backdrops...you are so good and post so often! xx

Forest City Fashionista said...

I didn't make the connection with the Aussie flag colours either - I just thought you looked brilliant in your spring-y brights against the backdrop of the blossoms. Hope you have a lovely "no-plan" weekend. I'm having one of those too, much needed after the New York adventure.

That dress was a pretty fantastic find!

I LOVE this outfit! Oh you're so lucky to have scored that amazing dress. It sounds like you have your weekend all planned out (a full fridge and an equally full liquor cabinet... what more could you want!). It is absolutely rotten weather here for a change so I plan to spend most of the weekend huddled up in cafes and catching up with friends.

Terri said...

What a marvelously wonderful dress! And that tree is simply gorgeous.

i finally mailed your package on Friday. I had to remove two items to meet weight requirements, which made me more than a little sad, but you should be looking for it in a week to 10 days.
