We just walk on by, we just keep on dreaming

Here's some pix from our first afternoon in Kaikoura...they're all about me, obviously!
We left Christchurch in lovely sunshine, but came to a grey Kaikoura that afternoon...must be that seaside thing I so often notice in New Zealand.
In the past, G and I have gotten excited about a sunny, warm day, driven out to the beach only to find that the closer we get, the greyer the sky gets!
Then, when we get there it's windy and cold and bleurgh!
Maybe it's just the South Island?!

My shoes are supposed to be navy, but I think I conclusively have proven that they are black.
Bugger.
I have been after navy shoes for ages.
Don't faint, they do have a small heel!
It's just sunk a bit in the grass....Helga in flats?!
Never!
A small heel is as close as it gets, flats hurt my feet!

We had a little cabin right at the back of the campground, backing onto this little stream.
There were cows just across from me, mooing viciously in the distance.
I always think cows aren't quite as gormless as they appear.
Can't blame them, really.

8 isn't my lucky number.
7 and 13 are, should you be interested.
We borrowed a bicycle rack and brought up our bikes!
Made getting around little Kaikoura quite fun!

Frock-70's, opshopped. I had forgotten about it, but found it recently, chopped a few inches off the hem and voila-renewed!

You look beautiful in red and navy! I know what you mean about the weather getting bleaker as you get closer to the beach - I grew up in Taranaki so it was all New Zealand west coast beaches, completely rugged with iron sand and it always seemed to be a bit bleak when we went to the beach as kids. Although the odd sunny day we had wasn't good either - iron sand gets SO hot when walked on with bare feet! I've never been to Kaikoura - but I love that you two rode you bikes around, how fab! Looking forward to more pics of your holiday xoxo

Your coat is a dream-loooove the shade of blue and I am covetous of your red necklace, lucky woman you! The cabin you stayed in is so cute and colourful. I love the fact that its not painted in the usual drab 'beige'colours. Long live colour!!

Oh look at that cute little cabin! How could it contain the fabulosity of Heavenly Helga and G-Star?!
You always look wonderful in red, white and blue, loving the collar on that great frock, and the necklace from G is a beauty.
Are you sure those shoes are black? I could swear they look very dark navy to me... But I do have some issues with colour identification, I seem to struggle with blue/green shades, much to my family's amusement, they like to mock the afflicted.
I wore some completely flat ballerinas and felt very strange in them, as though I had gone out in slippers!
Hope you kept that bow on under your cycle helmet - always maintain the glamour, darling! xxxxxx

Aah, your signature colours all layered up so effortlessly. I thought that was a knitting bag - are you carrying a sawn-off shotgun in it to protect you from the cows?

That is such a happy frock....I love the print & the colours & it goes so well with your gorgeous bow, coat & shoes. I love those orange beads! I too am not sure that the shoes are black. Maybe they are a black/navy hybrid. I do wish I could wear heels, but my Nana feet can only manage boring flats, & they must be expensive flats at that! Did you get to that vintage shop in Kaikoura? Xx

What a beautiful spot by the stream and such a cute little chalet, I'm dying to see what it's like inside too. I always imagine perpetual sunshine in places like New Zealand so it's a surprise for me to hear you get grey blustery seaside trips too, I thought that was our speciality here! I struggle sometimes telling the difference between a dark navy blue or black, it can be difficult to tell, I love your little strawberry earrings along with the rest of your outfit. xx

How pretty. The cabin is cute, love the odd-ball 8. The cabin has wheels! Do we get to see the inside!

Funny you can't find a pair of navy shoes! How come the simplest things we want don't exist? You know, I don't think I see to many either! Love your getaway location. The idea of riding bikes around a little town seems so European chic to me. Very romantic.

You are marvellous in these colours, Helga! Love the coat, dress, and bag. Bummer about the shoes - they look to me a dark navy, but just a bit too dark for your exacting colour standards. I'm sure your determination will win out!

And I keep dreaming of you my dear Helga!!! This is a great outfit and the polkadot bow is my favourite, I don't know if you already did it in the past, but I really love to see a tutorial of your beautiful beehive, I also quoted you on my 'Meadham something' post today because of your red and blue passion!
Lots of love! xxxx

I hated that about the beach as a kid too. I'd take bus 27 - 15 miles to the beach and it would be crappy! I love this lil cabin, what fun! I bet you guys rocked the shit outta it:). You are prettier than any gorgeous day at the beach and I wuvs you!

You look gorgeous love that coat and those are well cute. The cabin looks so quaint and lovely, yeah a cow once tried to kill me true story. xxx

You look amazing on red, white and blue! Despite the crap-tastic weather I bet you cheered everyone up! The cabin is adorable and check out those views. Check out the size of that flax!!! Cows are a bit scary, no wonder I avoid the countryside at all costs, there's something baleful and almost human in their eyes!
That knitting bag makes you look like an assassin, what's in it really?
LOve you!

Yay for more R,W&B on you! You look fabulous, love. What a sweet cabin too and I agree about cows being a bit scary - especially when they all come together and glare at you. Weird.
