A couple of the sounds that I really like are the sounds of a switchblade and a motorbike

We did something unusual for us on Thursday night....we went out for dinner to a rather poncey flash restaurant called King of Snake.....so poncey flash, we weren't even sure they'd let us in!!!
I'm not especially comfortable at fancy, fashionable places. They tend to view drunken rolling about on the floor antics with distaste.
We usually prefer small, reasonably priced suburban restaurants, our current favourite being Hammersley's Thai around the corner; despite the weird name, it currently serves what we think is the best Thai in town!
An old friend was in town, and another friend had arranged the dinner in her honour, so I threw on my new optical delusional frock and flounced on into the city!
Feck me, the place was chocka (that means full, or packed in Kiwi lingo!) with noisy punters, all of whom, it seemed, had to have a good gawk as we walked in....I was duly admired, therefore I deemed the place worthy of my presence...........!!!
It took frigging ages to get drinks, so frigging long I only managed two all night...and the meals also took forever to arrive......... but the friendly staff and the incredible meals we finally received made up for it!

Frock-50's, Lulaverse (truly the sweetest seller, and one of few I am happy to promote!)
Jacket-my friend Brenda (hello blossom! I love lurid lurex!)
Shoes-opshopped
Handbag-60's vanity case, opshopped
Lacey headpiece-my friend Claire makes wedding frocks for a living, this is an offcut that I hot glued a hairclip to. Sparkle!
Earrings-the lovely Sue
Diamante necklace-sweetheart Louise
Other necklace-a market
Sunglasses-my sistercousinwife Sarah

When did you last dine out somewhere ridiculously flash?!

Cool dress, I have gone blind now :D Last weekend actually, Chambers restaurant in the County Hotel in Napier, food etc was fantastic actually, I was told afterwards it was, because we had to wait a while too and I'd had a whole bottle of champers in that time! *hic* Had to go to bed for an hour, Joe had the dessert sent up, I got my 2nd wind soon after that and was back out on the town by 11 and karoaked until 2am!! Woohoo! Am I first??

I love that frock! What awesome fabric - I'm not sure Rich and I have ever gone out anywhere flash, we're so ghetto. Actually its just because we both prefer delicious Asian food - Korean, Thai, Malay, Vietnamese and these usually tend to be cheap and choice restaurants. Actually we DID got to a friends birthday in a fancy restaurant this year - but it really wasn't our style. All I could think is how many curries I could get for the cost of our meal...

The Optical Delusion frock is a beauty. I do think that 50s shape just suits you to perfection, it shows off your magnificent boobage and little waist and lovely legs a treat!
I haven't eaten in many posh restaurants, I'm too much of a cheapskate, and like you, I tend to think those kind of places will be snobby and I won't feel comfortable. It would be good to go somewhere with really fabulous cuisine which wasn't up its own arse. I had a really fine meal in France once which was probably the poshest food I've had, but the restaurant itself was quite relaxed.
Ooh, how dare they make you wait! But at least you were admired - of bloody course you were!
Loving YOU!!!!! xxxxx

chocka!! we say chocka too! your optical delusion dress had me mesmerized, I thought my lazy eye had kicked in, it's a fabulous dress and you look most gorgeous- damn straight you were admired! as it should be!
I can't even remember if I have eaten somewhere posh, I don't think so, we tend to go to 'all you can eat' because we are so classy!!! x x

King of Snake? Really?

I haven't gone to a fancy restaurant in ages. The times I have gone, it's been an "event" and someone else picked up the tab. Funny, both times it was the same person (an old family friend of my father in law)

Your dress is making me dizzy

I want your frock. Seriously. Want it. Best frock ever!!!!!!
When a kiddo my parents took me to swanky places, but not since. It was fun then, but not my style now. More of a neighborhood cafe or coffee house gal. Ya, hotdog from a vender, too.
How much for the dress. ; )

Ooo that frock, DIVOON as you are in it! I love going to flash restaurants and shops dressed in my punk rockingly best -- just love the faces especially when they are wrapping our purchases or presenting the bill (at a rest.) Gotta shake things up makes live interesting! And you know what I get better treatment at high-end shops than at the cheap ones. Go figure. XXX

Ooooh, I've been looking for that polkadot dress since forever! I saw a photo of it online and just missed out on buying it so have been looking for one ever since....same color and EVERYTHING!! I think freaking out people's eyes as they look at me appeals more than anything.

Gawd, that frock is perfection on you. 1950s can be so suburban housewife but you take them to another far sexier level. Bare legs! Yay, Summer can't be far away now.
I don't feel comfy in posh places either - I like them gloomy and a bit rough round the edges, like me!
Love ya! xxxxxx

Lovely dress...Posh places make me want to behave worse than usual, therefore I steer clear! X

You're just delicious in that 50'd frock. Our last posh meal was in May. But take me somewhere posh I'm still likely to accidentally have some sort of embarrassing food related incident.

who wouldn't let you in a fancy restaurant wearing this fantastic 50s dress?! so chic. i love it! king of snake sounds like the fav restaurant of the guys from 'sons of anarchy' ...

I think you and me both have a healthy good obsession, we love good food! Can I just say this dress on you is just so perfect for a posh spot I love it! I too prefer the more low key middle go the row joints, places like we took you and G, but I do also LOVE a fancy fabulous feast in a fine ass joint.

When I was a teen and I'd go visit my Dad in San Francisco, he and a few of his gay buddies would always dress me up and take me out to super crazy over the top posh spots for dinner. It's where I learned what few manners I have, couldn't embarrass my Dad at least not at dinner, but the bar afterwards, game on baby!

I do hope one day Chris and I can come visit you both and eat and shop and drink for days!

love your dress, that doubled polka dot motif is so cute, and it fits you like a dream, you're gorgeous!! (love your vanity cases collection)
Some time ago we attended a posh wedding and had our meal in a fancy restaurant (michelin stars and all), and we ate some delightful meal and laughed a lot without feeling concerned about all that pomposity!, it was funny anyway!
besos & fanciness

Last but no longer lurking! So glad you like the wee sparkly jacket. Your dress is STUNNING! Fancy restaurants freak me out and are to be avoided at all costs so I am full of admiration of your adventure in poshness!

That dress is great! The hubby and I went to this fabulous fancy restaurant at Laguna Beach in California. It was right on the beach. I could see the cliffs and waves it was magnificent. It was on the expensive side but it's not like we do that every year.

Melanie said...

That dress makes me googly-eyed. I just love it. You definitely command attention - you're probably the best thing those diners have seen in ages. I don't like how expensive restaurants and hotels smell the same. I can't get the residue off when I get home, and usually when I eat at an expensive restaurant I get sick later. But sometimes I love the atmosphere.

No wonder you were admired, you look bloody marvellous in your 50's frock & I must say how well it shoecases your frontage.
That style looks so good on you. Not keen on posh nosh places either, people watching is much more entertaining at lower class establishments, where I fit right in! Xxxxx

I do love that dress. I don't go to posh places as I can't stand all the "wannabe's ". I like places with a soul and down to earth decent food.

Oh my gosh I am so in love with that dress........it's fantastic.
You look truly gorgeous sweet........wow I can imagine the whole restaurant watching you.......so so so pretty.

Your optical delusional frock is the bees knees, although obviously only with you in it, bringing boobage, tiny waist and legs into the equation. Super spexy all round I say! I am most gratified that you were appreciated properly. It seems that the Vix effect is manifest in the Northern hemisphere, whereas you are the Queen of the South. Brava!

We did go to a rather posh restaurant last week, well two of them in fact, and the last time before that was in Stockholm last year on our hols. So basically yes, only on our hols as a treat do we go somewhere posh. I'm not fussy, I will happily people watch anywhere. xxxxxx

How gorgeous is that frock on you!!?? I love that wee jacket too. You can turn the eye of a crowd like no one can....you are simply stunning & stylish. I couldn't help but stare in awe too. Xx

Those 1950's dresses suit your curvaliscious figure so well! I love the pattern, but it made my head hurt a little while looking at it ;) I bet those punters gave you a good once over - they had probably never seen a fabulous creature like you!

I haven't eaten anywhere one could call really posh for ages, but there are a couple of nice restaurants here where you pay about $30 - $40 for dinner and one drink that I go to with friends every few months for a treat.

Oh such a divine frock, combined with that amazing sandals and fabby cat eye sunnies you look like a vintage beauty queen! xx Tani

Ivy Black said...

Beautiful frock...made for you love. I should bloody well think that the other punters gave you admiring glances. I be something dropped off someones fork as they stared at you.
I haven't dined out somehwhere flash in ages. I did go for afternoon tea in a nobby hotel where all the toffs go a while back. I took a posh frock out for the afternoon to eat teeny sarnies and bits of cake. Apparently Madonna used to stay there when she was being all tweedy and married to Guy. Not bothered about her..but the cakes were nice.

King of Snake? I would never think a restaurant named that would be fancy! Our fancy pants places are called boring things like Rockpool or Doyles. I guess NZ wins on that part. But anyway, you managed to be the most fab person in the room by the sounds of it. If you cant be loud with your voice, be loud with your clothes! Love that blue dress, do you wear a crinoline under it?

Delia Ryder said...

Oh Blimey how gorgeous do you look :-) Loving your 50's dress and those silver sandle's I am not surprised you got starred out you look stunning. Its nice to really dress up once in a while and go somewhere special. dee xx

I'm crazy about that necklace, and the silver shoes too--they would go with everything! We don't go out to fancy places nearly often enough...last place was the ballet. I felt like a "lady" (said in Little Britain voice).

Yes we did sometimes, i like them, and the service is excellent and fast, as fast as you can get in a posh place, did give you time to digest and drink- But they are not my fav places - I prefer a good Asian!
That polka dot dress was perfect for a posh evening!
