L'amour looks something like you

I had a rare really good day at the opshops on Friday, and I only hit 2 of them!
First call scored me this divoon caramel coloured faux fur coat and a royal blue wool cape with faux fur collar....and a sweet polka dot scarf....obviously I need more coats, capes, scarves, so this is a good thing!!

My second stop was more fruitful, and Humpers agrees...

A piece of barkcloth big enough for a frock (whenever I eventually get around to making another frock....), a vinyl snakeskin print purse, which will be my new lipstick purse, a 70's "beaded" purse, an immaculate 70's "beaded" bag, a blue case, a dear wee little 70's pot and.....2 60's Rex handbags!!!!
(I didn't recognise the black one as a Rex, I just happened to open it and see the label!)
I nearly peed myself!
And, best of all, the raddled old dude behind the counter gave it all to me for half price!
YES!!!!
Victory is mine!

Just to help you calm down, here are the first of our cactus flowers for the season...

And then, thanks to my darling Sue's ninja Trade Me skills, I scored this gorgeous early 60's (?) frock and jacket, with matching belt, no less!
Cousin Phil's Mama tells me a two piece like this was called an ensemble.

And this dear little case!
I was fair salivating over these, and was rather excited to win the auctions!

I'm sure Ron will be pleased his old bowling bag is going to get some good use as a ladies handbag!

I had also, a couple of weeks ago, picked up these sweet brooches at my local St Vinnies.
I think the glitzy yellow on the right and the pink on the left could be as early as 60's, but the central bottom is likely delightfully 80's, I think, but the starry one at top seems older.
I'm pretty useless at dating jewellery!

But there's something about that setting...what ever the case, it looks rather Maharaja blingtastic on my 60's turban!

Oh my good giddy wotsit, you won the jackpot! How flippin' marvellous. Isn't it wonderful when Luck behaves like a lady? It's a good job you did show us those flowers to calm us down. They are seriously beautiful. I love the beadwork bag and purse and your Raphael ensemble. It will suit you to a tee. I have a green lace coat from the 60s which I wore to death in my teens and 20s, I loved it so. But you know what I love most of all about this post? Those pics of Humpers checking out all your purchases! Fancy having a vintage appreciating pussy! Special request to see you in the pink turban soon! xxxxxxx

So many fantastic finds! I am totally jealous of the AMAZING vintage ensemble though - how swell are you going to look! So fab!

You sure did score dear Helga! You always have such great brooches and coats/capes. I need to find myself a nice cape.

I've notices that older gentlemen behind the counter of a thrift store always give great deals for items. Old Ladies? Not so much.

Oh what a haul!! That is some good op shopping! I've found pickings to be very slim recently - good to know there is still treasure to be found! Loving the twinset - delicious! XX

Dang girl and I both scored big time thrifting! Don't you just love that! My fav's would have to be that bright ass 70's bag and that blue cape, oh I can just see you rocking that when the cold weather comes back. I also can't believe you scored two Rex bags, sweet!

Come back to Portland soon I wanna go shop with you! I also knew you'd love the Bonehaus stuff, I could see a lot if it in your place. Last year I bought a flaming heart from her:)

Wow that is one very exciting load of fabulous treasure Miss Helga.......I don't know where to start...eeeekkk!!!
The ensemble is just gorgeous.......love love the fur trimmed cuffs. You will be looking just divine in that.
The brooches are amazing to.......you are so right the little sparkle is defiantly older......hard to say from the pics....my guess would be.......30's/40's....or maybe even a early 20's piece....good find.
Oh oh then the cape......blue and furry collar.....gorgeous.
Rex bags.....a must....yay.

Op shops really can change the world. Your finds are an absolute delight: it's the blue cape and beaded bag that caught my eye. BUT then when I saw that dear little case. That is a handbag made in *heaven*!! Well done on the finds, and can't wait to see them attached to your person in true Queen-HVT style!! xo xo

You really did score well Helga, I know how much you love Rex handbags so to find two in one go must have been amazing, I love all the bags, cases and purses as I have a weakness for all those things myself, though shamefully I remember destroying a few of those beaded 70s bags as a child because I loved picking the beads off. Can't wait to see you in your green ensemble and those lovely coats. I'm clueless about the age of jewellery too, but all your sparkly finds look gorgeous, whenever they're from. xx

What a great score. Two Rexs. You must have quite the collection by now. I first read that as "the randy old dude at behind the counter" and thought he must've given you half off because you were looking so hot.

Good lawd! What amazing finds. I have gone loopy over that blue cape with the fur collar. Totally divoon! But that green ensemble as well. So much treasure!!!! XXX

And those brooches blimey you did well :-) Its great when you finely found things you love its tough trying to find affordable vintage now, Enjoy it all and I cant wait to see the green twin set on you, dee xxx

I'm almost speechless at your finds but I know that they have found an ideal home. You must start up a Rex handbag museum, or write a book at least!

Wow, I love your scores. My favourite has to be the 70's beaded bag and that big gilt edged brooch. I'm no good at dating jewellery either but I'd have bought the lot. Also the ensemble is very fetching. Great colour. I have a vintage dress that came from New Zealand with a label that says OS. I always wondered what it stands for. If it's 'outsize' or 'oversize' well then that's just rude! ;) xxx

Didn't you do well, darling? Of COURSE the old gadgey (man) on the till knocked you some money off - probably wanted to knock you off too! Loving the Rex and the beaded bag. My kitties like to check out the vintage finds too - I like to think their finely tuned sense of smell catches a lingering essence of some old pussy (ha!) and they want to have a sniff!
SQUEEEEE to the Raphael ensemble, how superbly regal are you going to look in that beauty? And the case too - Ron would be delighted (I bet he'd fancy the safety pants off you!)
Now I rather think that wee diamante star brooch is older, as Vanessa says - those simple hook catches are usually an indication of older pieces, even Victorian or Edwardian.
And I haven't even mentioned the coat and the magnificent cape, and the cactus flowers. I DO need a lit down, right away!
I'm getting that feeling of sticky love inside, l'amour certainly does look like you! xxxxxx

Darling I'm simply salivating over all of your finds! Of course I LOVE the green dress & jacket, & that wee case is just sublime. And double REX finds?! Lucky girl! I love the beaded bag too. Hmm bags really rev my engine. And brooches, these are deserving of joining a scrum. Much Love. Xx

What a haul! Humpers knows you've hidden snacks in that little pot. That cape is a beauty

You did do VERY well for yourself, didn't you? Such a pretty green ensemble, and a matching suitcase/bowling bag turned handbag. One can always find a bit of room for a marvelous cape and furry coat. After all, you need to have the perfect coat for every possible weather condition ;)

I can't wear turbans, but that hot pink one is the cat's meow!

Annie said...

Oh man Helga, what a haul! The caramel faux fur is simply delicious. And two Rex handbags. How absolutely brilliant!

The green ensemble and case are made for each other, and for you. Can't wait to see you wearing them.

Oh my goodness that is a haul of epic proportions isn't it? All of those pieces quite simply have Helga written all over them. A mega haul once and while (whenever they happen) truly are exciting it gets the blood pumping with unbridled excitement.

Had to smile at the sweet pussy investigating the case of splendour. It reminded me of my naughty tortie, Dollymoo investigating the contents of the travelling chiropodist's case!

Dollymoo was a tough kitty who is now in heaven with her big buddy Spike the yorkie. They were inseparable.
