Lost in the glare, all of us stare

And here are the final pix form our road trip!
I managed to drag that out quite a bit, didn't I?!

Before we left Oamaru we had to stop in at this second hand shop, of course. Picked up a little wrought iron glass topped table, and then moved on....the mission of the day was to get to Waimate, a dear wee little town inland between  Oamaru and Timaru, known mostly for it's wallabies......
We've always wanted to spend a little time there, but never had.....

Waimate boasts 3 op shops, a couple of secondhand shops and a classy vintage shop, which was a surprise!

This to me is the piece de resistance....we were told that it was the first arcade built  in New Zealand.
There is a special society dedicated to the restoration of it.
I'd SO love to see inside, but it is fairly derelict as they haven't been able to raise enough funds yet to start the restoration.
(see here for history)

It's just gloriarse!

We stayed the night in this funny little hotel which hasn't been decorated since the early 80's.......

Each year they have street racing-which we missed by a day!
They were still cleaning up.

This is the carpet in our hotel room....

We popped out for a few drinkies and some dinner, and to catch the evening light at the Arcadia...it was even more divoon in the late, low sun!
What a palatial residence it would make!
A gal can dream.........

Ahhhhhhhhhh.......

Ahhhhh indeeeeeed!
That Arcadia theatre is just fabulous, isn't it? Almost as gloriarse as YOUR arse, sashaying down the street!
Why is it that the op/secondhand/vintage shops other people go to always look more interesting than the ones I visit? Op Shop Envy, I suppose.
Look at those heavenly blue skies, the crazy carpet, your red tights and fab denim coat-y thingy, and I'm not even going to attempt any jokes about spare tyres...
Your road trip looks such fun, I wanna come on the next one, please! Loving yooooooou! xxxxxxx

Ha ... That hotel looks like it could be from a seventies English Sitcom ... was there an eccentric proprietor?
Looks like a great trip ... hope you had a bit of luck in those shops.

I know I've said it already but it really is like my idea of the wild west! Such a fabulous place, the old theatre is sublime and those tyres are bastard massive.
What with road racing, cool vintage shops and wallabies, Waimate is the place to be especially with you pair of hotties shaking your sweet arses down the high street.
G's shirt and your outrageous sandal and tight combo are sublime.
Love you! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Those Waimate oppies look full of vintage goodness, I'd love to have a rummage there. Fantastic frontage on the Arcadia, I hope funds are found to restore it to it's former fabulousness. Blimey, that carpet! x

Aaah, I have so enjoyed your trip. You are a great travel companion.
I'm with Vix all the way, every time I see the pics from this expedition, I think 'Wild west'. Only instead of cowboys and Indians, we've got you and G. GloriARSE indeed! The Arcadia Theatre is beautiful and I love all these Maori names of the towns, they sound so romantic. Love the look of that op-shop. Curtise is right, they look pretty damn fine in NZ. You are so sweet on those tyres, like a little kid! :) xxxxxxxxx

And here I was thinking all that Waimate had to offer was the annual rodeo. That arcade is beautiful. I hope they get together the money to restore it.

Your photos are so clear and crisp, what a lovely town to visit. The Arcadia certainly looks like an amazing building to investigate if you old get. I love the final pic of you, do beautiful and I'm lustful for those t-bar wedges your wearing.
