Ridicule is nothing to be scared of

Woohoo, our band, Flange, is on a mini "tour" this weekend!
We're going dooooown....South, that is.
We play The Penguin Club in Oamaru tonight, and Purple Rain in Dunedin tomorrow night.
Rock n bloody roll!
I'll try and post a few pix to our Facebook page.

Jacket-made by moi using a 60's pattern from Vix. (One of those patterns that made me glad for my training, as it needed some serious alterations for fit and shape)
Shoes-Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Handbag-60's, from my sistercousinwifey
Flower- a gift
Necklace-from Kristalicious

As you well know, I've developed a square dance frock obsession in the last couple of years...evolve, evolve, change is good....and I figured I better bloody start making a few...this is my first!
I used a retro sheet I got for a dollar, which was a brilliant bargain, as I didn't have the right colour ric rac and had to bite the bullet and buy some. There's a lotta fabric in these frocks and a whole lotta gathering....talk about testing my patience!
But I persevered, and I love it! Fits like a dream.
You'll see it in action next post!

Have splendid weekends, y'all; see you on the other side!

Darling the green ensemble is GLORIARSE! I love everything, especially the frock and those beautiful shoes. The square dancing frock is just divine. You know I share your obsession (just waiting for it to be warm enough so I can wear the gorgeous pink you gave me in April!). Hope the Flange tour is AMAZING and we'll see you on the flip side, baby! love you more, even, than square dancing frocks. S xxxxx

Amazing ensemble - you-made no less. And your other new square-dancing dress is divine. I look forward to seeing you filling it with even more life.

Both of those clubs sound killer, I wish I could be right there in the front row dancing and cheering my ass off. You must look so hot on stage because you at you when you are just prancing around.

I lurve this square dance on you the green is delicious but hot dam the dress you made is so sweet! GOOD FOR YOU! I am so envious of you gals with the patience to just do it! I suck!

I think I will dream about this purse because it's so yum. Rock the casbah this weekend baby!

I'm a Rick rack aholic myself and I love your dress. Love love love it! Were you required to take square dancing class in elementary school like I was?

Your sewing skills are excellent-a jacket. My gosh, after a sleeve I'd be ready to go get drunk. I hoard ric rac and then NEVER have the shade I need. Without fail. You did just remind me that I have a square dancing dress, but it is rather plain...I think it aspires to be your lovely creation-when it grows-up.

Have a great tour. I'd follow you on the road if you weren't on the other side of the world.

The cropped jacket is the perfect topper for the green square dance dress. The shape is so well fitted, but la! what a tricky pattern for it. Clearly some training as a designer/seamstress was required to create it!

The sweet floral fabric seems to move in waltz time rather than a country polka. Have you decided upon a hair-style? A hat? It's fun and fascinating to watch your style evolve!

Gorgeous! You always look marvelous in square dancing frocks.

I am slowly starting to learn to not give a flying fig what others think. It's my body and I'll do what I please with it.

P.S- looking at the frock you made, I have loads of the perfect coloured ric rac you look to have chosen. I have a basket full of just ric rac, had I known I would have sent you some with some other goodies.

That jacket is perfect with your gorgeous frock! I keep meaning to make myself something similar but each I time I get the pattern out I get scared off by the buttonholes.
The square dance frock is sublime and the sheet choice perfect!
Love you! xxxxx

I love the frock you made, so bloody gorgeous, like yourself!! Where ever did you find the pattern? Sheets make fabulous frocks, I saw a lemon and white gingham one today that made me think of you. I should have got it, why didn't I get it for you?? If you want me to get it let me know and I will send my sister back to buy it.

I hope the Flange mini-tour went swimmingly and that you acquired some new fans. I love that little cropped jacket - it's the perfect topper for the full-skirted square dancing dresses. Now that you have mastered the art of making your own, I expect to see one in every colour cropping up in your future posts.
